Adam Shaw
Adam is the son of Trevor and Caroline and has a sister Emma and brother Ben. He was  appointed to serve as Head Boy in Portora for 2012/13 and met the Queen on her 2012 visit to Enniskillen.
What are you presently doing/studying?

The majority of my time is taken up by my four A-Levels: History, Economics,
Mathematics and English Literature. Otherwise I can usually be found on the  rugby
pitch or scanning groceries behind the checkouts in Asda.

What are your ambitions?

If I manage to complete the year as Head Boy unscathed, a place at a top university would be the icing on the cake! After that, considering the current climate, a promising career in law or economics is everything I could ask for.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Bar the usual things like listening to music and spending time with friends, I have the rather unusual hobby of playing catch with my brother. Truth be told, it’s more of a chore playing catch with a four year old; once you start playing you're not allowed to stop!

Do you travel/hope to travel?

I was once told “There’s more to life than Fermanagh”. I’d like to test that statement!

Favourites in life—food/film/books?

It’s hard to beat a good steak and chips followed by a good homemade dessert… If I had to pick an absolute favourite novel it would have to be ‘Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less’ by Jeffery Archer. His philosophy of ‘Don’t get mean, get even’ sticks with me. A film I would truly recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it is ‘Taken’  featuring Liam Neeson. This film is a real eye opener!

What is your best day?

Without a doubt, meeting Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness on 26th June. The next day I was summoned to the Headmaster’s office and invited to become Head boy. Some say Her Majesty sealed the deal!

Have you a favourite Bible verse/hymn?

‘Abide with Me’ by Henry Francis Lyte - witnessing the work of an old Portoran being sung in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics was truly inspiring!
