Staff and Students of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute 2013-14

During the mission running right through Holy week, we are joined by a large team of students of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, some of whom appear in the photograph above. This mission is an exciting opportunity for us to live out our parish vision to reach upwards to the throne of God in worship and adoration; inwards to one another in understanding and fellowship; and outwards to the world in evangelism and social compassion.

Services are being held every night of Holy Week and the preacher is our Bishop, the Right Rev. John McDowell. The students from CITI Institute are present to enrich our worship during the week and are drawing alongside the parish in a number of key areas, namely children and families, young people and "senior citizens".

Our special Holy Week Mission began with a ‘Palm Sunday Procession’ from our Cathedral Halls. A sizable number of parishioners and Sunday School children walked up to the Cathedral as we remembered Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. A donkey led the procession, palm branches (well, laurels actually!) were carried and, guided by the choir, we proclaimed ‘Hosanna, Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord’.

On the Monday, some of the students staged a session of  "Messy Church" at the Buttermarket and others ran a Confirmation Café in the evening.

On Tuesday afternoon the Students host afternoon tea and a time of fun and fellowship for all in our parish who are aged over 55.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was more "Messy Church" at the Diamond and a further session on Thursday in the Cathedral Hall.

Good Friday morning saw a procession from the Cathedral Hall  followed by  a Good Friday Family Service.

The Cathedral Hall was the venue for a Saturday morning Parish Family Breakfast. Then during the evening  there was a St Macartin’s Youth Event featuring bands, new media and a fresh look at Easter!
